Lake Nakuru National Park, nestled in the floor of the Great Rift Valley, is one of Kenya's most rewarding safari destinations. Originally established to protect the vast flocks of flamingos that once turned the lake's shores pink, the park has evolved into a critical sanctuary for endangered species and a premier Big Five destination.

The park is one of Kenya's most successful rhino sanctuaries, home to both black and white rhinoceros that can be spotted with remarkable regularity. Lions, leopards, buffalo, and Rothschild's giraffe — one of the most endangered giraffe subspecies — also roam within the park's fenced 188 square kilometres.

Lake Nakuru itself is a shallow alkaline lake whose water levels fluctuate dramatically, influencing the flamingo populations that depend on its algae-rich waters. Even when flamingo numbers vary, the park offers spectacular birding with over 450 recorded species. The surrounding acacia woodland, euphorbia forest, and rocky escarpments create a scenic and diverse habitat for wildlife viewing.
